According to the latest report from Canalys, Intel shipped 50 million CPUs globally in the fourth quarter of 2023, which is six times more than AMD, maintaining its dominant position in the PC processor market. The PC processor market is nearly monopolized by Intel and AMD, with their chips powering almost all computers worldwide. However, in recent years, laptops and convertible devices equipped with Arm processors have been gradually increasing, although they still represent a minority in the overall market.
The report indicates that Intel's global CPU market share grew by 3% year-on-year, reaching 78% with 50 million units shipped. AMD ranked second with 8 million units shipped and a market share of 13%, showing a slight decrease. Apple ranked third with 6 million units shipped and a market share also slightly decreasing to 8%.
Although MediaTek and Qualcomm are major players in the mobile arena, their share in the PC market remains relatively small. However, MediaTek achieved a 27% growth in the previous quarter, mainly due to the success of Chromebooks. Analyst Ben Yeh pointed out that by providing processors for Windows devices, these two companies are expected to increase their market share in the future.
From the perspective of PC vendors, Lenovo is the largest customer of both Intel and AMD, accounting for 25% and 40% of its total CPU shipments, respectively. HP, Dell, Acer, and Asus also occupy the top five positions in market share with varying proportions.
Furthermore, the report also shows that Intel's CPU revenue increased by 2% to $41 billion, Apple's revenue grew by 8% to $8 billion, and AMD's revenue reached $5 billion, a 6% increase compared to the same period last year. Qualcomm and MediaTek's revenues have yet to break the $1 billion mark, but Qualcomm is hopeful for a significant boost with the upcoming release of Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus SoCs.
These data indicate that while Intel continues to maintain a strong position in the PC processor market, other competitors are also striving to increase their market share and technological capabilities. In the future, the PC processor market will continue to witness intense competition, with manufacturers constantly introducing more innovative products to meet the growing demands of users.
