Canon's plant in Bac Ninh will be without power from 8:00 am local time on Monday until 5:00 am Tuesday, local media quoted the northern unit of the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) as saying, adding that at least five industrial parks and several villages in the province will be partially or completely cut off for several hours in the first days of the week.
Some industrial parks in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces in northern Vietnam have been facing power outages, two local officials said. "We will be working with Power Vietnam later today to discuss the situation and possible measures to limit the impact," one of the officials said.
In order to save electricity, more than 11,000 companies in Vietnam have agreed to reduce consumption where possible, and some places have even taken measures such as turning off street lights and letting manufacturers use electricity off-peak to maintain the operation of Vietnam's national power system.
Vietnam's deputy Minister of Industry and trade, Do Thang Hai, admitted at a government meeting over the weekend that "households and businesses in certain places have experienced power shortages at certain times," adding that such power supply problems would continue.
On June 6, 2023, the Prime Minister of Vietnam Pham Minh Miong issued official Letter No. 517 (517/ CD-TTG) on the implementation of measures to ensure the supply of electricity during the 2023 and future dry seasons.
