Macronix (2337) has made new progress in the development of three-dimensional storage type flash memory (3D NAND Flash) products. The 96-layer 3D NAND Flash product was mass-produced in December last year.
Macronix is the global leader in read-only memory (ROM), and also in the leading position in the field of encoded flash memory (NOR Flash). In recent years, its progress in 3D NAND Flash has attracted market attention.
Macronix's 48-layer 3D NAND Flash products will be mass-produced in September 2021. According to the latest information on Macronix's official website, 96-layer 3D NAND Flash products will be mass-produced in December 2022. Macronix previously stated that it is expected to further complete the development of 192-layer 3D NAND Flash products by the end of 2023.
In response to the needs of 3D NAND Flash R&D and operation, Macronix’s board of directors approved a capital budget of NT$2.648 billion in December last year, including capital expenditure in 2023 and 3D NAND Flash R&D machinery and equipment. Investment is expected to start in the first quarter of 2023.
At the same time, Macronix continues to promote serial flash memory technology, and began mass production of 45nm 3V serial flash memory (SerialFlash) series products in January this year.
When the number of stacked layers of the three-dimensional storage type flash memory is higher, the thickness of each stacked layer will be thinner, and the chip size will become smaller. On the other hand, the chip capacity can be greatly increased, and the size can be reduced , The goal of increasing capacity.
